How to heal post-summer hair

It's been a long, hot summer and while we've loved every second...our hair not so much.

The heat, sun, sea and pool water can all cause damage, and too much leaves our hair looking dull, dry and brittle.

The good news is that we've got some great tips to help your post-summer hair recover.

Whether your blonde has gone brassy, your ends are looking a bit straw-like or your hair has lost its shine - read on for the perfect rescue remedy.

Think of it as a bootcamp for hair (only more relaxing and indulgent).

Feed thirsty hair

The combination of over-styling, sun, swimming pools and salt water can zap moisture from your hair.

The result is scorched strands that start to break and are hard to manage. To rehydrate, give hair a much needed boost with an intensive conditioning treatment.

Head Office Creative Hair Studios' founder, Victoria, explains: "We recommend starting with Olaplex's in-salon therapy, No.1 and No.2 (£22), which permanently rebuilds and repairs the structure of your hair. A bit like a 'reset' button.

Say goodbye to brass

If your blonde has started to look a little brassy, neutralise unwanted tones with a purple shampoo.

"Even with the best intentions, it can be hard to avoid your blonde hair taking on a brassy tone over the summer holidays," says Abi, one of Head Office's colour experts. "A purple shampoo is a great fix to help dial down the orange-yellowy tones this can create until your next salon visit. Apply evenly all over the hair, leave on for a few minutes and then rinse off. A little goes a long way so only use as and when it's needed."

Get your shine back

Is your hair looking a bit faded and flat? If so, glossing is a great way to bring it back to life. Gentle to hair and packed with nourishing ingredients, hair gloss adds subtle pigments of semi-permanent colour to correct colour tones and gives your hair an unbelievable shine.

Go easy on heat and hair washing

Too much washing can strip the natural oils and proteins from your hair - the last thing you need when it may already be dehydrated after the summer.

Head Office senior stylist, Leah explains: "Aim to wash hair once every two to three days and choose a sulphate-free shampoo and conditioner, like Olaplex No.4 and No.5 that nourish and strengthen from within, as well as protecting any colour you have had applied."

Go easy on the heat too. When blow drying, opt for a low-medium setting on your hair dryer and avoid using heated styling products where you can. We promise you, your hair will thank you for it!
