Are you struggling with hair loss?

Has your hair suddenly started to feel thinner or more brittle?

If so, you're not alone.

In the past year we've seen the highest ever number of clients ask us for help with issues like these in the salon.

But why is it happening, and what can you do to stop it?

Hair loss can give us some important clues about our health. For some women, it can be down to genetics but for others it may point to an underlying issue, such as:

  • Menopause
  • Pregnancy or postpartum hormones
  • Medication or illness
  • Stress or anxiety
  • An unbalanced diet

Our lifestyles have a lot to answer for as well; a stressful job, sleepless nights or too much processed food - it can all take its toll.

And, when this happens, the body automatically puts our hair at the bottom of the priority list which means it doesn't get the nutrients it needs.

The good news is that we can help. Our team have decades of experience in helping women overcome hair loss and fall in love with their hair all over again.

Here are 5 of our top tips to deal with hair loss...

#1 - Look after yourself

One of the first things we ask clients is this: are you looking after yourself?

Lack of sleep (or poor-quality sleep) and stress can be responsible for raising the cortisol levels in your body. In turn, this can interrupt the hair's growth cycle.

Give your hair the best chance of recovery by setting yourself a good sleep routine and making time for wellness, be it a quick yoga routine every evening or some simple breathing exercises.

#2 - Feed your body, from the inside out

In order to grow, our hair needs the right nutrients. Take a look at your diet and be honest - is it giving you all the vitamins you need?

Focus on eating well - in particular hair superfoods like spinach, eggs, lean meat, berries, sweet potatoes and fatty fish - and cut out things like junk food which can hinder growth.

Hair loss isn't always about losing hair from the folicle either. The wrong nutrition can also hamper your scalp's ability to produce essential oils, leaving hair brittle and prone to breakage.

#3 - Support your hair

Use a high-quality supplement to give your hair an extra boost.

Our fave is GLOWWA's Hair Food which contains a natural blend of ingredients to offer the ultimate at-home healthy hair treatment. Think biotin, zinc, MSM, vitamin C, L-Lysine, niacin, coconut water and a host of B vitamins - everything you need to support the hair's growth cycle and reduce shedding. It's also vegan friendly, free of bulking agents and cruelty-free.

You can buy GLOWWA's vitamins through Head Office and, as a thank you, we'll treat you to a free blow dry each time you order a 30-day supply.

#4 - Style your hair safely

Look after your hair externally too.

Treat hair to a gentle, sulphate-free shampoo and conditioner like No. 4 and No.5 from OLAPLEX to strengthen and reinforce its structure; protect with a heat defence serum or spray like Moroccanoil Perfect Defense, and blow dry using a low to medium setting.

Avoid over-using tools like curling wands or straighteners as well. When hair is already fragile, it's super important to prevent further damage from styling.

#5 - Fake it 'til you make it

Improving hair loss can be a slow process, but there is a solution that can help in the meantime....hair extensions.

Hair extensions can be a great way to add extra volume to thinning hair - either all over or in certain areas. We specialise in uber-discreet Great Lengths' bonds which blend seamlessly into your real hair.

They've also been scientifically proven not to cause damage when applied, looked after and removed correctly so it's a safe option for those struggling with hair loss.
